Some background information about the movie - Produced in 2005, it is about Rwanda, a country in Africa (Yes, Africa is a CONTINENT, not a COUNTRY), where a bloody conflict between two different ethnic groups, the Hutus and Tutsis, are taking place. This movie is based on a true story, of the conflict that took place in June 1994. The conflict, like many others continue till today.
I am showing in class because it talks about the following key issues that are intimately related to what we are studying which you MUST take note of when you watch the movie -
1. Conflict between two ethnic groups within a country (like Sri Lanka and Northern Ireland)
2. Reasons for conflict between two ethnic groups
3. Consequences of a conflict
4. Role of the United Nations or UN Peacekeepers in a conflict
I'll leave you all with a trailer to tickle your tastebuds. :) See you all in class! Please remember to post questions. Asking questions is always a good thing.
